Description:

Approximately 700 First Type Model 1870s were manufactured c. 1870 at Springfield Armory from converted Sharps percussion straight breech actions, a New Model 1863 in this case. They were made for field trials after the 1870 Board to select a standard issue breech loading rifle. Matching number "34525" on the left breech of the barrel.

Rating Definition:

Fine with bright barrel and furniture, arsenal refurbished case colors visible on the action, and some scattered light to mild freckling. Refinished wood is fine, with traces of the cartouche visible on the left, and scattered scratches and dents. Mechanically excellent.
