Description:

The sword has a 30" blade etched with "GRAND ARMY of the REPUBLIC" on the obverse and "Major General LEW WALLACE" on the reverse along with "WM READ/& SONS/BOSTON/MASS" on the reverse ricasso. The nickeled scabbard is included. Also in the lot is a copy of Wallace's book "Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ" published by Harper & Brothers, two volume autograph edition of "Lew Wallace: An Autobiography" (1906), framed portraits and signatures of Lew Wallace, and a print of a photograph of the "BEN HUR ROOM". Lew Wallace (1827-1905) was a Union general during the Civil War and later a politician and diplomat as well as the author of the bestselling novel "Ben-Hur" and remained the bestselling American book until "Gone with the Wind" in 1936.

Rating Definition:

The sword and scabbard are very good with mild age and storage related wear and distinct etching. The other items are generally also very good overall with general age and storage related wear.
