Description:

This relic Colt Single Action Army is identified in the included provenance statement as discovered by Ralph Campo at Stinking Springs in the summer of 1910 when he was 9 years old. Campo indicates he was later told that given its location, it may have belonged to a member of Billy the Kid's gang. The revolver has no legible markings and remains loaded, but it is completely frozen up and inoperable. The revolver appears to have the dished ejector rod head introduced in 1882 and the "black powder frame" used until the mid-1890s placing the revolver's date of manufacture between those dates. In addition to the framed revolver and provenance statement from June 17, 1939, framed photographs of Jarvis Garrett at the site of the rock house at Stinking Springs and one of the rock house are included. Billy the Kid and some of the Regulators were found in the rock house by Pat Garrett and his posse on December 23, 1880. After a shoot-out, Billy the Kid and others were captured and outlaw Charles Bowdre lay dead. Provenance: The Ralph Campo Collection; The Joe Kottmier Collection; Property of a Gentleman

Rating Definition:

The revolver is relic grade with dark patina and rough surfaces. The frames have mild wear, including some holes from prior mounting.
