A) Burnside Contract Model 1865 Spencer Repeating Saddle Ring Rifle

Description:

Manufactured c. 1865 as a carbine. In 1871, Springfield Armory converted approximately 1,108 Burnside-Spencer carbines by fitting the actions with rifle length barrels chambered for .50 Spencer rimfire ammunition with three-groove rifling and adding the Stabler cut-off device. This example had its barrel subsequently shortened, possibly for use out west.

Rating Definition:

Good, with gray and brown patina, scattered heavy freckling and some light pitting. Replacement forearm is fine, stock is good with scattered scratches and dents. Absent Stabler cut-off device. Mechanically fine.

Rating Definition:

Good, with brown patina and a few patches of light surface corrosion. Stock is very good as re-oiled, with a repaired cracked section visible on the left of the wrist, various other cracks, and scattered scratches and dents. Absent sliding safety piece, otherwise mechanically fine. Absent leather barrel cover.
