Description:

1) Black boots, leather construction on the bottom and fleece-lined suede on top, no visible maker's marks. Consignor notes attribute these as a set of Royal Air Force "escape boots"; in event of a bailout or crash landing, the wearer could cut off the suede portion, making the lower area look like normal civilian shoes on casual observation. 2) White leather "cowboy" style boots with steel-reinforced heels and painted on unit insignia on the sides; the right bearing insignia for the 85th and 86th Fighter Squadrons, the left the 87th and 316th Fighter Squadrons (the 85th, 86th and 87th were all components of the 79th Fighter Group, the 316th part of the 324th Fighter Group). 3) Brown leather boots, no makers marks, with a leather Air Corps/Army Air Force insignia on the right boot and the China-Burma-India theater insignia on the left. Provenance: The Putnam Green/Sycamore Collection

Rating Definition:

Very good overall, with wear and staining appropriate to age and use. The white pair shows heavier cracking of the leather and areas of torn stitching.
