Description:

Manufactured in 1917 per the butt number. Butt marked "U.S./ARMY/MODEL/1917/No./237". The revolver is listed as shipped on November 27, 1917 on page 407 of Charles Clawson's "Colt .45 Service Pistols" as part of the first shipment to the Commanding Officer, Springfield Armory. "14983" marked on the frame, crane and barrel added at the time of arsenal refurbishment after World War I. Retains the early straight cylinder, without the counter-bored chambers that were adopted soon after production began to allow use without the half-moon clips. The frame is stamped with the early GHS monogram of Gilbert H. Stewart, that appeared on the first Colt Model 1917 revolvers.

Rating Definition:

Very good as arsenal refurbished with scattered minor dings, a cylinder drag line, and some light spotting. Oversized replacement grips are good as refinished with numerous scattered dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
