Bore Condition: The bore is bright and has crisp rifling.
Description:

The factory letter lists this rifle as a Model 1874 Long Range Rifle and indicates it was listed as a one of the rifles sent to the Creedmoor Rifle Range on September 8, 1877. These rifles were "probably to be used as sales demonstrators during the International Rifle Match, but possibly to be used by members of the American Team should the need or wish arise. The rifles were returned to the factory on September 24th." This rifle was later invoiced on August 1, 1878, to J.G. Dow of Bozeman, Montana Territory, and noted as a Model 1874 Long Range Rifle chambered for 2 6/10 inch shells and weighing 9 pounds 12 ounces." The consignor's notes indicate that is now recut for 3 1/4 inch shells and that he had it repaired and restocked for Russell Galloway. Fine as updated/modified and restocked with welds on the rear sight dovetail and tangs, original finish, gray and brown patina, mild pitting, and general mild wear. Mechanically fine.
