A) U.S. Springfield Model 1879 Trapdoor Rifle with Bayonet

Description:

Manufactured in 1884. Boxed script "SWP/1884" cartouche stamped on the left wrist of the stock with circled script "P" proof on bottom. Includes a brown leather sling and "US" marked socket bayonet with leather scabbard.

Rating Definition:

Good with some original finish in protected areas, mostly smooth brown and gray patina, and scattered light freckling. Stock is also good with scattered dents and scratches, and a legible cartouche. Mechanically excellent. Bayonet and scabbard are good.

Manufactured in 1892. Boxed script "SWP/1892" cartouche stamped on the left wrist of the stock, circled "P" proof on bottom, "36" stamped on top of the buttplate, "23" and "36/23" stamped on the right of the buttstock. Includes a brown leather sling.

Rating Definition:

Good with some original finish in protected areas, mostly smooth brown and gray patina, and scattered light pitting. Stock is also good as sanded and re-oiled, with numerous scattered dents and scratches, and a legible cartouche. Mechanically excellent.

Bore Condition: The bore is partially darkened with visible rifling.
Description:

Manufactured in 1875. This model was famously used by the 7th Cavalry at the Battle of the Little Bighorn in June 1876. It is believed that most of the 7th Cavalry carbines were in the 33000-43700 range and were captured by the Native Americans during and after the battle. Later replacement Model 1884 pattern rear sight, and replacement stock with longer 10 1/2 inch comb length and thicker wrist. Includes a three-piece cleaning rod inside the butt compartment.

Rating Definition:

Good as refinished, with much of the finish, and scattered patches of corrosion/pitting. Replacement stock is also good as sanded and re-oiled, with numerous scattered scratches, flaking, and some cracks. Mechanically excellent.
