Description:

The included factory letter lists this revolver in .45 caliber with a blue finish and notes that though the barrel length and grip are not listed this usually indicates a standard 7 1/2 inch barrel and walnut grip. It was part of a shipment of 100 revolvers sold to the U.S. Government and delivered to the U.S. Government Inspector at the Colt factory on December 30, 1880. The included letter from John A. Kopec states that this revolver was not located in the National Archives. He found the revolver to be authentic and fitted with an 1890s style replacement hammer and a replacement base pin and noted that the scratches over the U.S. marking on the frame may have been from an attempt to hid the fact that this revolver had been government property. Matching serial numbers are found on the barrel under the ejector housing, cylinder, frame, trigger guard, and butt. "D.F.C." inspected frame and cylinder. "1880" and "CCM" cartouche on the left side of the grip and cartouche outline on the right. Provenance: The Charles Marx Collection

Rating Definition:

Good with some original blue finish, gray and brown patina, minor oxidation/pitting, scratches over the "U.S." marking on the frame, small flakes on the lower edges of the grip, and moderate wear. Mechanically fine.
