A) U.S. Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle

Manufactured in 1887. Absent cleaning rod.

Rating Definition:

Fair as refinished, with brown patina and scattered pitting/oxidation. Stock is also fair as sanded and re-oiled, with scattered dents, scratches, chipped absent sections along the forend, and cracks. Mechanically fine. Broken/absent lower section of the rear sight sliding piece, broken/absent stacking swivel.

Description:

Manufactured in 1892. Boxed script "SWP/1892" cartouche stamped on the left wrist of the stock, "9/B/17" stamped on top of the stock comb, with "9" on the right of the buttstock. Replacement Model 1879 pattern rear sight.

Rating Definition:

Good with some original finish, brown and gray patina with scattered oxidation and pitting, barrel and forend shortened from rifle length, with replacement sights. Stock is also good as re-oiled, with numerous scattered dents, scratches, and a few chips and cracks. Mechanically excellent.

Good as refinished, with much of the finish, scattered freckling, a replacement lock and hammer, barrel and forend shortened from rifle length to resemble a carbine, with a replacement front sight. Stock is also good as sanded and re-oiled, with numerous scattered dents, scratches, and a few chips and cracks. Mechanically excellent.
