This heavy barrel Sharps rifle features a Freund Bros. patent pistol grip attachment and shows all the spirit of the American west and many of the features normally associated with the "buffalo rifles" used by the commercial hunters of the period. These rifles were highly valued on the frontier for their reliability and long range accuracy, both for commercial hunting and for protection. The top of the heavy barrel has the boxed "Old Reliable" marking along with "SHARPS RIFLE CO. BRIDGEPORT, CONN." and is unnumbered on bottom. Includes copy of the F.J. Pablo Balentine's book "Freund & Bro. Pioneer Gunmakers to the West", and a modern scanned copy of a Freund Bros. pamphlet.

Rating Definition:

Good as frontier used and refinished, with some traces of finish on the barrel, and mostly brown and silvery gray patina on the balance with some light freckling. Wood is very good with a faded appearance, and numerous scattered characteristic dents and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
