Description:

The factory letter indicates this rifle was invoiced on March 13, 1878, to Captain C.F. Gennerich of 781 8th Avenue in New York City as a Model 1874 Schuetzen Rifle (aka German Pattern Rifle Model 1874) with a 30 inch octagon barrel in .40 caliber using a 1 11/16" case, with double set triggers, cheekpiece on the left, sporting buttplate, globe front sight, and a Vernier mid-range tang sight. The weight was 9 lbs. 12 oz., and the net price was $2. This was part of an order of twenty similar guns shipped to Captain Gennerich of the New York Central Schuetzen Club. The consignor's notes indicates it was restocked and was purchased from dealer Mitch Lustich who had purchased it out of an auction in New England. The barrel has the "CALIBRE 40" and "1 1/16" caliber markings (.40-50 Sharps Necked). The rifle is accompanied by a wood case with primed casings formed from mainly .45-70 brass and reloading tools. Provenance: Captain C.F. Gennerich and the New York Central Schuetzen Club; The Robert A'Hearn Collection; Mitch Lustich, Property of a Gentleman

Rating Definition:

Very good as restocked/restored with dark brown patina and mild pitting on the barrel and refreshed case colors, "aged" patina on the brass buttplate, and minimal wear on the wood. Mechanically fine.
