Introduced in 1865 and produced in limited numbers. James Farve-Brandt has been identified as a Swiss attaché in Japan. The consignor indicated the markings on the rifle translate to "Emperor Meiji, in the Ninth Year of His Reign 1873 or 1875. The number in Japanese Characters 13 is a possible Serial Number or 13th received by them in the country or Prefecture of Yamashi. Emperor Meiji launched Japan toward a course of Westernization. I am now sure how the French gun arrived in Japan but, it was brought back by an American GI after World War II."

Rating Definition:

Good with some original finish in the protected areas, gray and brown patina, minor oxidation/pitting, and mild overall wear. Mechanically needs work.
