A) J.M. Marlin Ballard Falling Block Rifle

Description:

Manufactured c. 1875-1881. Replacement blade front sight made with part of a U.S. coin, replacement buckhorn rear sight.

Rating Definition:

Good with smooth gray and brown patina, scattered freckling and light surface oxidation. Replacement sights as mentioned above. Wood is fair with numerous scattered scratches and scuffs, and a chipped absent section at the toe. Mechanically needs work, hammer inoperable with no spring pressure.

Bore Condition: The bore is darkened with pitting, visible rifling and a minor bulge visible towards the muzzle end.
Description:

Manufactured c. 1859-1864.

Rating Definition:

Good with smooth brown patina, some scattered patches of light pitting/oxidation, and some scattered minor dings. Stock is also good with flaking of the outer varnish finish, a few small cracks visible at some of the edges, and scattered light scratches and dents. Absent knob and stop screw on the left mounted extractor, otherwise mechanically fine. Minor bulge in bore.
