A) George Fay Long Rifle

Bore Condition: The bore is darkened with pitting/corrosion and visible rifling.
Description:

George Fay was a gunmaker in Altoona, Blair County, Pennsylvania, until at least 1882 when his shop was robbed. "G.FAY." marked twice on top of the barrel, no visible lock markings.

Rating Definition:

Good as refinished, with brown patina, pitting and wear. Stock is also good as sanded and re-oiled, with scattered dents, scratches, cracks and filled in repairs. Empty small threaded hole behind the standard retaining screw on top of the barrel tang. Mechanically fine.

Description:

"J. Mien" signed on top of the barrel, "ATKINSON/WARRANTED" marked lock.

Rating Definition:

Fair as refinished, with brown patina, pitting and wear. Stock is also fair as sanded and re-oiled, with scattered dents, scratches, cracks and chips. Barrel loose with stripped retaining screw threads, absent percussion nipple, absent lock screw with lock loose, mechanically needs work.

Manufactured c. mid-late 19th century. Faintly legible "TRYON/& Co" marked lock, no visible barrel signature.

Rating Definition:

Good as refinished, with brown patina, scattered pitting and wear. Stock is also good as sanded and re-oiled, with scattered light dents, scratches, cracks and a few spliced repairs. Broken patchbox door latch, lock does not remain in the cocked position, mechanically needs work.
