Manufactured during the Imperial World War I era as a Gewehr 98 rifle, and subsequently overhauled to K98k configuration with a "short rail" for scope mounting. The SS are known to have used a number of overhauled Imperial and Weimar weapons to meet their armament needs, due to competitive pressure from the Heer. The left breech of the barrel is stamped with spurious "SS/2" sig runes over a totenkopf/death's head along with "S/243" and "eagle/211" proofs. "Eagle/N" proof on the right of the receiver ring with no visible markings on top, "S/42" depot rework marking and "eagle/WaA63" proofs on the rear sight base, and "eagle/H" and Waffenamt stamps in the stock. Besides the non-matching numbered replacement stock, buttplate and scope assembly, the rifle has otherwise matching visible serial numbers on various components (some components renumbered to match). The Hensoldt Dialytan 4x scope is marked "Nr. 61163" on the eyepiece, with added inscribed number "7593" on the tube to match its late type ring mount assembly with modern replacement central locking lever/screw (similar example pictured on pages 29-30 of "Sniper Variations of the German K98k Rifle" by Richard D. Law), with "SS" runes and a death's head stamp on the left of the scope dial. Import marked left of receiver. Includes a brown leather sling and metal muzzle cover.

Good as refinished and converted/assembled to sniper configuration, with scattered patches of light pitting, freckling and edge wear. Stock is very good as re-oiled, with numerous scattered scratches and dents. Forward barrel band renumbered to match receiver. Mechanically excellent. Scope is very good with clear optics.
