Description:

Peter Moll (1799-1879) fought in the War of 1812 in Abraham Rinker's Company in Colonel Thomas Humphrey's 18th Riflemen. Afterwards, he became a gunmaker in Hellerstown, Pennsylvania. In addition to his rifles and smoothbore long guns, he and David Moll manufactured pistols that have been considered "secondary martial pistols." The barrel is bored smooth and has traditional low profile blade and notch sights and "P. & D. Moll Hellerstown" signed on top in a brass panel.

Rating Definition:

Good as reconverted to flintlock with gray and brown patina on the lock and barrel along with oxidation and pitting, attractively aged patina on the brass and silver mounts, distinct barrel marking, partially obscured lock marking, one absent patchbox screw, small replacement parts, cracked lock plate, some cracks and repairs in the stock, and moderate overall wear. The lock and trigger engagement need adjustment, but the lock functions.
