Description:

Appears to be signed "P.V. Stewart" on the barrel. The consignor noted it as from c. 1841 in Virginia.

Rating Definition:

Fair with dark patina/finish, aged patina on the brass and silver, poor fitting replacement parts including the lock, smashed nipple, cracks and repairs in the stock including a spliced forend, and moderate overall wear. Mechanically fine.

Description:

No visible markings but similar to the work of Charles Monroe Knupp (1862-1937) and his uncle Jonathan Dormayer (1826-1885).

Rating Definition:

Good with gray and brown patina and mild pitting on the lock and barrel, aged patina on the mounts, refinished stock with chips and cracks and some repairs, and general moderate wear. Mechanically fine.
