Rating Definition:

Good with gray patina, scattered pitting and light wear. Stock is also good as sanded and re-oiled, with some scattered light dents, scratches and cracks. Mechanically fine.

Unclear signature on the barrel. Ramrod absent.

Rating Definition:

Good as refinished, with brown patina and some light pitting and wear. Stock is also good as sanded and re-oiled, with scattered dents and scratches, a small absent section visible at the right of the forend, and a few small cracks at the toe. Patchbox door latch secures weakly. Mechanically fine.

Bore Condition: The bore is partially darkened and has distinct rifling.
Description:

Mid-19th century style rifles marked "J. BARNES MAKER SOUTH ORANGE" in an engraved panel on the barrel and "J. BARNES" on the back action lock. The barrel is cut for a starter and equipped with a Beech style combination front sight, adjustable notch rear sight. The walnut half-stock has checkered wrist and German silver mounts.

Rating Definition:

Good with smooth gray and brown patina, minor oxidation/pitting, detached front ramrod ferrule, refinished wood, and generally minor wear. Mechanically fine.
