Robert Silke Sr. and his son of the same name were active in London gun trade in the late 17th century until the elder's death in 1701. He was a contractor to the government and large English trading companies. The brass barrel flares out to over 1 1/4 inches at the muzzle and is likely around 16 bore in the octagonal breech section. It is signed "R. SILKE" on top and has "RS" ahead of the London proof and view marks on the left as well as floral engraving at the breech. The lock has some light engraving and is unmarked. The brass pommel cap and trigger guard have floral engraving.

Good. The brass barrel and furniture have aged patina and generally distinct engraving. The replacement lock has brown patina and oxidation. The period modified stock has been spliced to accommodate the lock and has three filled holes from the original lock screws, a split down the left side of the forend, additional minor cracks, and general small marks and scratches. Needs mechanical adjustments.
