A) U.S. Army Springfield Model 1871 Rolling Block Rifle

Description:

Approximately 10,000 U.S. Army Rolling Block rifles were manufactured c. 1871-1872 by Springfield Armory under a royalty agreement with E. Remington & Sons. "MODEL 1871" marked left of receiver, Federal Eagle over "U.S./SPRINGFIELD/1872" on the right, oval script "ESA" (Erskine S. Allin) inspection cartouche stamped on the left of the wrist, and "E/32" stamped on the right.

Rating Definition:

Very good with traces of original finish, smooth gray patina and scattered freckling. Wood is fine with defined edges, numerous scattered dents and scratches, and a crisp cartouche. Mechanically excellent.

Bore Condition: The bore is darkened with some pitting/corrosion and distinct rifling.
Description:

Manufactured in 1848, with mid-1850s arsenal alteration with long range sights and saber bayonet lug. "HARPERS/FERRY/1848" marked at the tail of the lock with the Federal Eagle at the center, "1849" dated barrel tang, "AW/P" and "V/P/eagle head" proofs at the upper left breech of the barrel, "JLB" inspection initials stamped on the left stock flat, and "33" on top of the buttplate. Includes a ball extractor tool and extra percussion nipple inside the patchbox.

Rating Definition:

Very good with brown patina, scattered spotting/pitting, and mostly legible markings. Stock is good with numerous scattered dents, scratches, cracks and a few re-glued repairs including the wrist. Mechanically excellent.
