Description:

The included factory letter lists the revolver in .45 caliber with a blue finish and indicates the lack of barrel length and stocks normally indicates a 7 1/2 inch barrel and walnut stocks as they were standard. It was one of 100 sold to the U.S. Government and delivered to the U.S. Government Inspector at the Colt factory on April 24, 1890. Matching serial numbers are found on the barrel, cylinder, frame, trigger guard, and butt. "R.A.C." inspected barrel, cylinder, and frame. John A. Kopec in his included letter noted that this revolver was not found listed in National Archives records but falls within a group of revolvers documented as issued to Troop D of the 8th U.S. Cavalry such as 131881 and 131896. "It would be my opinion that your revolver too was issued to the 8th Cavalry. He found the revolver to be 100% authentic with the exception of the noted purposely obliterated cartouches on the grip. Provenance: The Charles Marx Collection

Rating Definition:

Very good with traces of original finish and otherwise gray and brown patina, oxidation, pitting, and moderate overall wear. The safety and half-cock notches do not work, but the revolver otherwise functions fine.
