Bore Condition: The bore is dark and has oxidation/pitting and distinct rifling.
Description:

Manufactured 1863-1865. Matching serial numbers are marked on the barrel, trigger guard, and left side of the butt. The right grip is marked "C A G" on the butt and "C.A. Gibbons/Co. C 8th Mo. Cav./Springfield, MO" on the inside. Also includes a c. 1852-1860 "TILLOTSON & Co/COLUMBIA PLACE/SHEFFIELD" marked Bowie knife with spread wing eagle etching on the 7 3/8 inch blade and fitted with a German silver cutlery hilt. Information on Pvt. Charles A. Gibbons of the 8th Missouri Cavalry is included along with a framed portrait print marked "Pvt. Chas. Gibbons" showing a man armed with a saber and pair of Remington revolvers and a framed copy of an Adjutant General's Office pension application document listing Gibbons as enrolled in August 1862 in Marshfield, Missouri, in the 8th Regiment of Missouri Cavalry for three years and as killed in action at James Station on August 24, 1864. Among the goods charged against his pay per an included September 16, 1864, document was "one Remington revolver." The documentation includes a letter from 12/31/86 from Charles Wilhite who states that this revolver was formerly owned by collector Ken Erman who got it from the Missouri Historical Society in St. Louis. Rating Definition:

The revolver is good and has dark brown patina and mild pitting on the iron, deep aged patina on the trigger guard, and moderate overall wear. Mechanically fine. The knife is good with sharpening, moderate wear, patches of oxidation staining, an aged patina on the hilt. Overall, a very interesting set.
