Bore Condition: The bores are darkened with pitting/corrosion, and lightly visible rifling in the right bore.
Description:

Nelson Lewis (1811-1888) was a market hunter and match target shooter, apprenticed to gunmaker J.M. Caswell, and is listed as an active gunmaker out of Troy, New York c. 1843-1880s. "N. LEWIS/TROY/N.Y." marked on top of the barrel rib, "M.L.BUSWELL" and "GLEN FALLS N.Y." marked on top of the barrels. Inlaid German silver animals in the left of the stock along with an inlaid small compass. Approximately .50 caliber smoothbore left barrel and .45 caliber rifled right barrel.

Rating Definition:

Very good with some original finish, mostly smooth brown and gray patina, with legible markings in the metal. German silver fittings exhibit bright patina. Stock is good as sanded and re-oiled, with a few minor cracks and chips, and scattered light scratches and dents. Modern replacement percussion nipples. Absent barrel retaining wedge. Mechanically fine.
