Receiver manufactured c. 1975, with "A" prefix serial number outside the known U.S. Military M40 range and without stripper-clip cuts. The left of the barrel is marked with a "KV" (May 1979) date code on the left and spurious "USMC 7.62 MM" on top. Topped off with a commercial Redfield scope base (numbered "6438" on the left to match the rifle) and a Redfield 3-9x scope. Fitted with an oiled walnut stock with raised cheek rest and "638" painted on the right side. Includes a M1 pattern web sling.

Very fine as professionally refinished and assembled/configured as a M40 pattern sniper rifle, retaining most of the finish with softened receiver markings along with some discoloration on the receiver, light cycling wear, and minor handling marks. The stock is also very fine as re-oiled. Mechanically excellent. The scope is excellent with clear optics.
