OE - GOOD - some minor replacement parts; metal smoothly rusted or lightly pitted in places, cleaned; principal lettering, numerals and design on metal legible; lightly scratched, bruised or minor cracks repaired; in good working order.

Description:

Only an estimated 1,376 Trapdoor 20 gauge "Forager" shotguns were manufactured in the early 1880s. They were designed for 20 gauge brass shotgun shells and were used by hunters and scouts primarily at western outposts in the late 19th century. The lock plate is marked "U.S./ SPRINGFIELD/1873" ahead of the eagle shield motif and the breech block is dated "1881". There is an "SWP/1885" cartouche on the left side of the stock with "P" proof below trigger guard.
