Description:

This rifle was manufactured by Nathaniel (1804-1885) or Nathaniel Gilbert Whitmore (1829-1917) and has a turned down muzzle for use with a starter, a globe front sight, a long adjustable notch rear sight, "N. WHITMORE/CAST STEEL/BOSTON." on the upper left flat ahead of a blank gold inscription plate, double set triggers, a tap for an absent tang mounted peep sight, and scroll, floral, and border engraving on the breech, upper tang, lock, and the German silver furniture. Ramrod absent.
