Description:

"AMES MFG. CO./CHICOPEE/MASS." marked ricasso and scabbard throat. OAL:36 1/2" with 30 1/2" etched blade. Numerous cracks throughout leather scabbard. Consignor indicates the sword was formerly owned by William P. Thacher who enlisted on October 14, 1861 and served with the 46th Ohio Regiment during the Civil War. Thacher was commissioned for meritorious service as a Second Lieutenant while participating in numerous battles including Sherman's March to the Sea campaign. He was honorably discharged on April 29th, 1864.
