Description:

The 35 inch double fuller blade is marked "AMES MFg Co / CHICOPEE / MASS" on a scroll on the left ricasso and "U.S. / G.W.C. (arms inspector George W. Chapin 1862 - 1864) / 1864" on the right. The pommel is marked "A.D.K." (arms inspector A.D. King 1831 - 1865). The scabbard is of iron and is for a Model 1840 Heavy Cavalry (Dragoon) saber.

Rating Definition:

The blade is very bright with just a few areas of darkening. The blade edge is very good with only one small nick. The brass hilt has nice overall aged patina. The leather on the grip is good with flaking at the rear. All of the twisted brass wire remains in place. The sword retains its leather washer. The iron scabbard is good with an even brown patina and a few dents mixed with light surface rust. It retains its two heavy carrying rings. The sword is slightly loose in the larger scabbard.
