Description:

The 31-1/2 inch double fuller blade is heavily etched on the right side with large floral sprays both above and below an open-winged American eagle with 24 stars above the eagle's head. There is an area with crossed flags above a large drum near the hilt. The left side is etched with a different style of floral sprays both above and below a large centered "U. S.". The maker's name "C. Roby & Co. / W. Chelsford / Mass." is in a large panel above the ricasso. The pommel is of the Phrygian helmet pattern. The leather oval washer is intact. The grips are shark skin and have the brass twisted wire wrapping. The scabbard is black leather with wide brass mountings.

Rating Definition:

The blade has a gray patina with light pitting. All etching is good. The blade edge is without nicks. The grip shows a crack on the lower right side with a small loss of the covering. All brass on both the guard and scabbard mounts is dark with untouched patina with some areas retaining the original gilt. The leather scabbard is missing the brass drag and shows bends and bulges.
