Description:

1) Model 1872 Cavalry sword, 34-7/8 inch double fuller blade has the remains of an "EMERSON" marking on the filed left ricasso. The guard has an eagle on the reverse and the pommel a shield on top of the grip. The wire wrap on the grip is missing. The remains of an inspector mark are on the drag of the iron scabbard. 2) Springfield Model 1860 Staff & Field Officer's sword. 31 inch diamond shaped blade etched "U.S. / Armory / Springfield / Mass." above the left ricasso, "GGS" on the left ricasso and standard etching on both sides of the blade. The fastening button and spring are missing at the counterguard. The throat of the scabbard is missing. The upper ring band is replaced.

Rating Definition:

1) Good with gray patina and scattered pitting mixed with signs of cleaning on the blade and scabbard. The hilt retains about 60% of its gilt finish. The leather is very good. 2) Fair to good. The blade has numerous nicks and has streaks across the blade for most of its length. The scabbard has little of the nickel plating remaining and has areas of surface rust and light pitting.
