This is an exceptional example of a mid-WWII production P-38 pistol as manufactured by the Mauser factory. The left side of the slide is marked "P.38 byf / 44" and the serial number, and the right side of the slide is stamped with an "Eagle/Swastika" proof flanked by 'WaA135" Waffenamt proofs. The front of the barrel block is marked with the serial number "3807", the left side just below the rail has a "135" Waffenamt proof, the locking block is marked with a "135" proof and an "eagle/ swastika", and the left rear of the barrel has another "eagle/ swastika" mark. The left side of the slide is marked with the serial number next to a "WaA135" proof. The grips are black and red bakelite plastic, with a cutout for the lanyard ring. The magazine is marked "P-38v" on its left side.

Excellent plus, with 99.5% of the original finish. The barrel is an attractive plum color, with a few light handling marks overall. The near mint grips show some pressure dents. The action is excellent.
