Description:

The Reichsluftschutzbund (RLB or German Air Protection League) was formed by Hermann Goring in 1933. The first daggers were authorized in 1935 and issued in 1936. The subordinate ranks dagger was slightly smaller than the leader rank dagger. The 8-3/4 inch blade is almost an inch shorter and at 1 inch wide, about 1/4 inch narrower. The blade is marked "C. GUSTAV SPITZER * SOLINGEN *" in a circle around a lion. The turned wood grip has the first type RLB insignia in the center. The blue enamel "RLB" monogram is above a tiny blue enamel swastika on a silver sunburst background. The German silver crossguard has a 3-1/4 inch wingspan. The turned pommel, the mountings on the scabbard and the fittings on the hanger are also German silver. The crossguard and pommel do not appear to have ever had any finish but the ones on the scabbard have a varnish coating. The scabbard body is painted black. The black leather is riveted to the triangular attachment and has the Altenbach "A" and patent mark on the reverse.

Rating Definition:

The blade has some light cleaning scratches and some very light pitting but is still bright. The grip has minor dents and scratches with some fading of the silver on the emblem. The scabbard is excellent with 90% of the black paint and one fingernail size spot of bubbling on the reverse. There is some staining on the hook on the hanger.
