Description:

Manufactured in 1903, and shipped to the Witte Hardware Co. on February 7 of that year, in a shipment of 5. Fixed blade front sight, one line barrel address on top of barrel and "(BISLEY MODEL) 38 W.C.F." roll engraved on left. The frame has the two line, three date patent markings beside the circled Rampant Colt on the left side. Serial numbers on frame, trigger guard, and backstrap all match. Wide, low hammer spur with wide trigger and characteristic "humpback" grip. Checkered hard rubber grips with Rampant Colt emblem at the top. The documents included are copies of original documents prepared by the ATF and Colt Manufacturing Company. The ATF, Colt Historical Research Department, and Colt Firearms Control Staff researched each firearm. This was part of an ATF investigation to ensure that each of the firearms were in fact original and not forgeries or renumbered in any way. The facts on the research information sheets are directly from the Colt records and Colt Historical Research Department.

Rating Definition:

Near fine, with approximately 30% of the original blue finish remaining. A mottled brown patina is forming on the surface, along with some handling marks and high edge wear. The frame has faded to a mixed gray and brown patina, with traces of the original casehardening pattern. The replaced grips are slightly oversize, with some scuffing and scratching, along with some missing checkering around the right side screwhole. The action is excellent.
