Description:

13" blade marked with the early "CARL EICKHORN/SOLINGEN" in a double oval around the "squirrel/C.E." logo on the left side of the blade. The cross guard is decorated with oak leaves on the front side and only on the quillion section of the reverse. The balance of the reverse is marked "L.K.Z. 62" which matches the number on the throat of the scabbard. This identifies the Rural Police of a town or district designated as "Kz." A little research will identify this. The brown leather scabbard and frog are a good match for color. The frog is marked "A.& H. FELDICH/Erkrath/1939". The black leather strap on the portapee is stitched with three rows of silver colored wire on either side of one of red. The tassel is the typical aluminum wire acorn. The slide knot is missing. The eagle head pommel is adapted from the earlier Weimar pattern with the eagle/swastika in a wreath substituted for the hexagonal eagle. The front of the cross guard is roughened where the languet was removed. The unstopped fuller shows that the blade was altered from the earlier, longer one. This is verified by the "sunburst/K" rework mark on the spine. The earlier brass rivets in the scales were replaced by aluminum.

Rating Definition:

Fine with light spotting on the right side of the blade and on the spine. There is a dent on the left top of the pommel and some bubbling on the top strap. There is one major dent and a number of smaller ones on the reverse of the scabbard tip. The leather shows light scratches and dents and has two bulges instead of the normal one on the shortened scabbards. The portatpee has some light fraying at the top of the knot.
