Description:

This is a nice example of an early 1929 Swiss Military contract Luger as manufactured by Waffenfabrik factory in Bern, Switzerland. This specific pistol was one of the very first manufactured in the Military contract serial number range (50,001- 77941), and it has been factory or arsenal converted from the 7.65 mm Luger to the NATO "9mm" Luger cartridge. These 1929 pistols were the last configuration as used by the Swiss, and are very distinctive based on the outward configuration of the overall pistol. These differ in comparison to the traditional German version in many areas some of which are; they have a straight grip shape to the frame, different shape to the grip safety (longer and wider) and thumb safety lever and area, a slightly different shape to the takedown lever and a turned or rebated front section of the barrel extension that matches the outside diameter of the barrel shoulder. It also lacks the checking or knurling on the sides of the toggles. It is assumed these were just designed as manufacturing shortcuts, as many of the parts have a standard blued finish in lieu of the "heat treated" Straw color. The top of the chamber is unmarked and the rear toggle have the "Swiss Cross in a Shield" markings. The 9mm barrel is correctly numbered on the side of the shoulder and has a small "Swiss Geneva Cross", acceptance proof on the underside with the full serial numbered on the right side frame rail (and not on the front end) and again on top of the rear toggle. There is a small Crown over "M" on the right side rail and a small "Swiss Geneva Cross" acceptance proof on the major components indicating acceptance at the Bern factory. The rear of the frame and again on the sides of the plastic grip panels, has the circular proof of a "F + over W" proof, and the front of the trigger guard has a single "P" proof indicating release by the Swiss Government. It is complete with a late Swiss pattern leather holster which on the back is marked "E. LEU" over "BERN" and "32" with an original shoulder strap, and two original Swiss nickel plated magazines, (one for the gun and one spare) both correctly marked with the "BP" proof on the spine.

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall with 98% + of the factory finish with minor edge and high spot wear. The dark brown plastic grips are in excellent condition with no cracks of damage and the holster is in very good condition with nice tight stitching with an even light brown color overall with clear markings on the back. This is a scarce 1929 Swiss Luger rig that would add greatly to anyone's Luger collection.
