Description:

This is an excellent example of a very scarce Model 1922 training rifle as used by the US Army that has been arsenal converted into the M11 configuration rifle. Only approximately 2000 total M1922 rifles were ever produced with the majority of them being sold through the DCM in the late 1920s and early 1930s. This rifle was evidently one of 750 that was retained by the US Army and which was subsequently converted/rebuilt into the later M11 configuration. The top of the receiver is marked "US SPRINGFIELD ARMORY MODEL OF 1922, over the serial number and the front of the barrel is marked with the ordnance bomb proof over 5-42. The left side of the barrel is stamped "LONG RIFLE CARTRIDGE ONLY". It is fitted with the 1922 military style service stock with finger grooves on the sides of the forearm and the left side of the stock is marked with a boxed "SA" cartouche with circled "P" proof in the pistol grip area. It is equipped with the later Nickel Steel "M2" marked bolt that is correctly serial numbered to the rifle, the heavy checkered M2 style buttplate, a military style Lyman 48 target rear sight and also the later flush mounted M2 style magazine. It comes complete with a WWII Boyt marked leather sling.

Rating Definition:

Arsenal refurbished overall with 99%+ of the late gray/green parkerized finish overall with minor edge wear. The walnut stock is also in excellent plus condition with no handling marks but showing some arsenal sanding on the lower stock area in front of the buttplate during conversion. The sling is in very good condition.
