This is a 1944 production rifle as manufactured by the Mauser Factory. The top of the receiver ring is marked "byf" the wartime code for the Mauser factory and "44" for the year of manufacture. The right side of the receiver is marked with an Eagle 135 proof and the left side is stamped with the large firing proof, serial number, and "Mod.98". The rear of the barrel is marked with a firing proof and "43R2". Milled triggerguard, floorplate numbered "24", and stamped replacement front band and floorplate. The replaced stock is a late war laminated version with a cupped buttplate, stamped "1187" on left side of butt, with a dark brown leather sling.

Very fine as assembled, with 70% of the finish. There is a gray patina on many parts, with some having faded entirely, and some just showing small areas of gray, along with some light handling marks and edge wear overall. The stock is very good, with a number of dings and dents. The sling is very good, and the action is excellent.
