Description:

This is a beautiful example of an unaltered pre-war commercial Mauser model 1895 bolt-action rifle with Chilean markings. The receiver is stamped with the Chilean crest on the chamber; a similar, encircled crest is stamped on the left side of the butt above "1895" in a rectangular box. The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number followed by: "MAUSER CHILENO MODELO 1895./MANUFACTURA LOEWE BERLIN." in two lines. The full rifle serial number is present on the receiver, left side of the stock, trigger guard, bolt handle and the cleaning rod. Partial serial numbers are stamped on the bolt cocking piece, safety and floor plate. All serial numbers match. Virtually all components have Mauser or Chilean inspection marks. The barrel, receiver, floor plate, trigger guard, butt plate and most other components have a rust blue finish. The bolt release, magazine follower, trigger and rear sight elevation bar have a niter blue finish. The cleaning rod, rear sight leaf and bolt are bright. The Model 1893/1895 Mauser rifle was a significant leap in the bolt action designs that was painfully demonstrated at the battle of San Juan Hill and was a significant factor in the adoption of the U.S. M1903 rifle.

Rating Definition:

Excellent plus to near mint condition overall with 99% of the original finish remaining with very scattered slight marks and scuffs on barrel at muzzle end. Finish on receiver excellent with no finish loss. All marking clear and crisp. Niter blue bolt release has very slight scattered spotting on left side. Finish on edges of trigger guard thin. Scattered slight marks and scuffs on trigger guard. Metal buttplate in very fine condition. Wood is also near mint with no finish loss, and just a couple of light handling marks on the forearm. All proof markings on the stock and handguard are crisp and sharp.
