Description:

Marked "W EVANS. 4. HOLDEN TERRACE VICTORIA STATION. LONDON." on top of the barrel. The marking extends over the front of the top Rigby flat. The name alone is on the lockplate. William Evans worked for Purdey and Holland & Holland before starting his own company in 1883. The company is still in business today. This lightweight shotgun was made after 1904 when the firearms proof system was reorganized. It was proofed in Birmingham even though Evans' address is London. There is light engraving on the edges of the metal parts. The straight grip walnut stock is finely checkered at the wrist and for most of the length of the forearm, the tip of which is horn. The buttstock has no buttplate. The end grain was finished and then grooved with horizontal serrations.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The barrel retains most of its refurbish blue, the triggerguard its reddish color. The action has an orange peal appearance as does the lock. The markings are faint but readable. The wood is fine as refurbished.
