This is an example of a early prewar Commercial Mauser sporting rifle. These rifles were used as hunting and target rifles and eventually found their way in some of the early Nazi service corp. as training rifles. The receiver is marked with the small Mauser Banner Logo and the left side is marked Mauser -Werke A.G. Oberndorf A.N. The left side of the barrel is marked "PATRONE 22 LONG RIFLE" and both the receiver and barrel have the small Crown over B, U and G proofs along with the serial number (66124). The bolt matches the receiver. It is equipped with the military style tangent rear sight that is graduated from 50-200 meters with a ramp front sight. The stock is the correct early style that has finger grooves, the small European style sling swivels and the black plastic checkered buttplate with the Mauser banner logo on it.

Near excellent overall (with exception noted below) with 95% of the faded original finish remaining that is showing a blue tone mixed with some light browning in places with wear on the edges an high spots. The stock is professionally refinished showing some nice figure through-out the butt with a nice original smooth hand rubbed like finish that exhibits a nice even honey brown color to it. It has matching numbers on all the parts.
