Description:

This is a beautiful example of an original unaltered and very scarce "Baby Nambu" pistol with a matching magazine as manufactured by the Koishigawa Arsenal in Tokyo. These pistol were manufactured from 1909-1923 and were never officially adopted as a general issue pistol by the Japanese military but were intended to be privately purchased by high ranking officers of the army and navy. These pistols have a high quality rust blue finish and straw colored trigger, magazine release, sear pivot pin and bolt lock, with a bright finished bolt. The magazine has a nickel-plated body with an aluminum base. The grips are finely checkered hardwood. The top of the chamber bears the four intertwined cannon balls of the Koishigawa Arsenal with the Kanji markings on the right side of the receiver over the serial "4024". The serial number is also visible on the underside of the bolt, the back side of the magazine, and the back side of each grip panel. It has an original pebblegrain brown leather holster with the smooth brown leather flap with several Kanji markings on the inside of the flap with a reproduction shoulder strap. Approximately 5,900 of these pistols in total were manufactured. The "Baby" Nambu is the most sought after and desirable Japanese semi-automatic pistol.

Rating Definition:

Excellent plus with approximately 98-99% of the original blue finish with approximately 85-90% of the original straw color remaining with it just fading on the face of the trigger. The grips are also in excellent condition with nice color on both sides and excellent checkering overall with a few minor flat spots on the tops of the diamonds on the right side. The holster is in near excellent condition with nice brown color overall, with tight stitching with the corners of the flap showing heavier age cracking and two heavier 2 inch age cracks (but not through the leather) just showing on the flap. As noted this pistol has matching numbers and based on the superior condition would certainly be an excellent example to add to your collection.
