Description:

This is a mid production Type 2 paratrooper as manufactured at the Nagoya Arsenal. This model was the last version of the paratrooper series of rifle manufactured during WWII, with production starting in 1943. These are very unique in that they have a single cross-bolt mechanism that allows it to be disassembled and carried inside a storage bag during deployment. It still retains the Kanji marking on top of the receiver but the Chrysanthemum has been ground off. It has the military style tangent rear sight graduated to 1500 meters with the antiaircraft wings and the inverted "V" front sight with guard posts. In addition to the standard markings, an assembly number "627" is marked on the left side of the receiver, the front and rear parts of the locking assembly, and on the takedown screw. It has a smooth hardwood stock, with full length handguard, grasping grooves, drain hole ahead of the break, sling swivels, and a cupped metal buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Partially restored, with 95% of the original finish remaining. There is some fading to gray on the front barrel band, along with some scattered wear and light pitting. The bayonet lug is renumbered to match action. The stock is very fine, with a number of pressure dents and scratches, along with some rough wear to the finish. It has matching numbers correctly on the bolt assembly and front barrel band. The takedown mechanism is numbered 627 matching each section. The action is excellent.
