The left side of the receiver has the serial number along, with the Koishikawa Arsenal mark and a subinspector mark after that. It has the early short staff folding rear sight similar to the Type 38 carbines with the open "V" rear graduated to 2000 meters and inverted "V" front with guards. It is equipped with the early short type, (first variation) bayonet housing and folding bayonet. Flat buttplate with trap door, (cleaning rod not included), and the two piece stock design with a full length handguard without the underside forestock drain holes. The parts are all beautifully machined and blued with the bolt assembly remaining in the bright. The dust cover is missing.

Rating Definition:

Very good overall. The metal parts retain approximately 90% of the original blue finish with thinning on the muzzle and bayonet housing, The trigger guard shows strong traces of the blue finish and the floor plate has light spotting. All of the markings are crisp. The bayonet retains 95% overall blue finish with thinning along the bottom. The stock is fair with overall scattered light to moderate dents, dings, scratches and gouges with heavy field use. The buttplate has a smooth silver/gray patina. Mechanically fine.
