Description:

This is an excellent example of a WWII Japanese Officers Samurai sword. The sword is a standard Katana in Shin-Gunto mounts (military) with a 27 inch cutting edge with a approximate a 10 inch handle. It has a Sugi-ha, straight temper line running the full length of the blade with a silver plated copper mounted Habaki. The Tsuba is the typical WWII style made of heavy cast brass with Chrysanthemum on each of the four corners, on the front and back. The Tsuka or hilt is also the typical WWII military version with the light brown wrapping over the ray skin cover with a single, brass military style Menuki on each side. The 6-3/4 inch tang is signed on both sides with approximately 8 Kanji characters on one side and 5 on the other. The scabbard is also the typical WWII Military mounted, metal version with the correct copper plated brass fitting with the carrying ring at the top, with a light brown painted surface. It is complete with a WWII officers Tassel that is brown on one side and blue on the other side.

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall, the blade is in exceptional condition with a sharp high luster original polish finish with no chips, nicks or damage which still retains the pointed tip on the end. The temper line is clear and distinct the full length with just a couple of areas with some minor discoloration or rubbing from inside of the scabbard. The scabbard retains 98% of the original WWII brown painted surface with all the original fittings intact. The handle has the original brown wrapping that is tight and intact and the ray skin underneath shows no cracks or damage. As noted the tang is signed on both sides and it has the typical WWII small acceptance stamp above the name. A super example of a WWII Japanese Officers Samurai Sword.
