Description:

Though at first glance they appear to be 27" long tusks set into bone bases, each piece is actually an assembled set of bone tiles that was then deeply carved and scrimshawed with black and red ink. Each one is roughly 30" tall, with a 2 3/4 inch thick base, which is decorated with zig-zag and colored flower patterns. On the "front" side of each tusk is a 14 1/2 inch tall deeply carved panel showing a robed figure with a red cast mark on her forehead with clouds and a ring of fire around her head, standing on a dragon, and attended by a woman and boy standing on oversized flowers. Around the top is a Greek Key border pattern, and on the sides and back are floral patterns, a set of circular designs, and field of interlinking circles with diamonds. Immediately above the base are zig-zag patterns, and at the tops are lines radiating from the tip.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, with some age yellowing, and some of the tiles are spreading out, mostly on the top right hand side of both tusks
