Description:

This is a very early WWII Mauser 98K rifle, the top of the receiver is marked "S/42" which is the wartime code for the Mauser factory at Oberndorf and "K" which signifies the year of manufacture as 1934. The use of the letter codes in the receiver markings was an attempt by the Germans to disguise their efforts to rearm and was really used for only three years, 1933-35. The right side of the receiver has three boxed acceptance proofs (G91, and P14), repeated on the right side of the rear sight base, and the left side of the receiver has the serial number and the early "Weimar Eagle" style acceptance proof and the side wall has the early large "MOD. 98." markings. The rear of the barrel also has the serial number along with "7,9" ahead of the ring. It has the all the early milled components, with WaA63 proofs on the trigger guard assembly. The stock and handguard are smooth pistol grip walnut with cupped buttplate with the left side of the buttstock restamped with the serial number, the buttplate stamped "bpn" and "WaA497" The serial number has been electro penciled onto the rear sight, bolt, bolt handle, floor plate and trigger guard. With a leather and green canvas sling and an oiler.

Rating Definition:

Very good as refinished, with 95% of the current blue, and a few light dings and dents overall. Most of the wear is located on the high edges. The stock is very good, with some minor varnish loss, scratches, and a few larger pressure dents. Action is excellent and there is a large import mark under the exposed section of the barrels.
