Description:

The innovative Model 1941 Johnson automatic Rifle with rotary magazine and detachable barrel was tested against the army's recently adopted M1 Garand rifle prior to WWII. Although never formally adopted by the U.S. Army or Marine Corps, large numbers of 1941 rifles were purchased by the Dutch government for issue to colonial forces in the Dutch East Indies. After Pearl Harbor a number of these contract 1941 rifles were issued to the U.S.M.C. Parachute battalion and saw limited service with the Marines in the South Pacific in 1943. This rifle has the standard Johnson patent markings and nomenclature: " CAL 30-06 SEMI-AUTO / "JOHNSON AUTOMATICS" / MODEL OF 1941 / MADE IN PROVIDENCE R.I. U.S.A." on the top of the receiver above the serial number. The front of the barrel collar is marked ".30-'06" above the barrel and "41" below it. The bolt serial number "B7903" does not match the receiver number which is not unusual for Johnson Rifles. The right rear of the receiver is marked with the trade mark "CRANSTON/ARMS/CO" in a triangle. The blued, tangent rear sight is correctly graduated in meters from 100 to 1,000. The metal components have a parkerized finish and the stock and forearm are oil-finished walnut. Complete with an olive green canvas sling and correct unmarked parkerized bayonet with a leather scabbard.

Rating Definition:

Excellent plus to near new. The rifle retains approximately 99.5% of the crisp original factory parkerized finish. The stock has been cleaned and is also excellent with a few scattered light dings and minor pressure dents. The bayonet retains all of the original parkerized finish. The sling and scabbard are also both in excellent condition. One of the finest Johnson Model 1941 semi-automatic rifles that writer has ever seen.
