Description:

This is an M1903 Springfield MARK I rifle that was originally manufactured to be used with the rare Pederson device (and subsequently reworked). These devices were intended to convert a standard M1903 bolt action rifle into a semi-automatic rifle simply by replacing the bolt. The top of the receiver is marked "U.S. SPRINGFIELD ARMORY MODEL 1903 MARK I" over the serial number and the barrel is marked "SA-ordnance bomb-12-18", which corresponds to the serial number on the receiver. The left side of the receiver has the correct ejection port that was milled for the Pederson device and the rifle has the correct milled barrel bands, trigger guard and floor plate. The stock is the correct Mark I, straight grip "S" style that has the lower left stock line to accommodate the ejection port with finger grooves on each side of the forearm with two cartouches; one a boxed "EH" over an unboxed "SADAL" with a double "P" in the pistol grip area. The early WWI bolt that has the single small gas hole underneath with the straight handle and is unmarked except for a single punch-dot proof mark on the underside of the handle. It is equipped with the correct Mark I trigger assembly and a KERR No-Buckle canvas sling.

Rating Definition:

Arsenal refurbished overall with 95% plus of the post WWI late 1930s dark green GI parkerized finish overall with some minor edge wear and thinning with some browning on the sides of the rear sight base. The heavily sanded wood is in very good condition showing a nice even color overall with one cartouche being clear and distinct and the other one somewhat faint. The stock does show minor sanding around the buttplate and the finger grooves. A very nice example of a scarce 1903 Mark I rifle.
