Description:

This is a very nice example of a restored "U" receiver marked National Postal Meter carbine which is actually one of the rarer M1 carbines manufactured during WWII. (The "U" actually stands for Underwood which was making the receivers to fill out National Postal meters contract.) The front of the receiver is marked "U.S. CARBINE / CAL. 30 M1" and the rear of the receiver is marked "NATIONAL POSTAL Meter" under the rear sight and the front of the barrel is marked "I.B.M. CORP." It has a mix of manufactured parts, some of them correct National Postal Meter with an adjustable rear sight and a early type two barrel band, push button safety, and flat bolt. It has the early high wood stock with the "I" cutout for the oiler with a boxed cartouche on the right side in front of the sling slot with a circle "P" proof in the pistol grip area, it is fitted with the correct early two rivet handguard. It is complete with a WWII style canvas sling and one magazine.

Rating Definition:

Professionally restored overall with 98% of a very nicely refinished GI style parkerized finish. The stock and handguard are also both arsenal refurbished showing minimal handling marks with visible cartouches. A representative example of a scarce carbine for a beginning collector.
